The main changes, relating to health and safety legislation during the period under review, relate to the Mine Health and Safety Act.
Two new Mandatory Codes of Practice (“MCOP”) guidelines were released by the Chief Inspector. In terms of Section 9 of the Act, it would be an offence where an MCOP is not drafted in accordance with the guideline.
While probably the most important new developments, various secondary issues are also discussed. These include: SANS standards, hazardous goods transport, railway safety and COID issues.

The Minister of Transport has published permit fee Regulations for comment.
The Regulations serve to regulate the manner of application for safety permits, who has to bring the application for permits as well as the types of permit to be applied for.
Comments on the proposed Regulations must be submitted by 18 February 2015.
The Minister of Transport has gazetted a list of approved service providers for the training of Dangerous Goods Transporters.
The Notice contains names and contact details of approved training bodies.
The Minister of Labour has given Notice that certain monthly pensions are to increase by 7 percent.
